Description of the tour to the Catherine's Palace:

Tsarskoe Selo is famous for its marvellous Catherine's Palace and park - a very romantic place for walking. Many historical films, dedicated to Russian history and the Tsars, were shot in the interiors of the palace and surroundings of Tsarskoe Selo. Tsarskoe Selo was the main summer residence of the royal family, hence the name (Tsarskoe Selo means “Tsar’s village”). The second name of the town is Pushkin. It was called so in honor of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin, as his life was closely connected to this town. 

The main landmark of Pushkin is Catherine’s Palace. It features splendid interiors, designed by eminent architects Rastrelli, Cameron, Stasov and Monighetti. The collections of the palace contain a large number of precious works of art, such as furniture, porcelain, statues, canvases and so forth, including the personal belongings of Russian emperors and members of their families. One of the most remarkable interiors of Catherine’s Palace is the Amber Room. During the palace excursion you will get to know about the Amber Room’s mysterious history and see its fully restored interiors. You will enjoy the result of restoration works performed by skilled masters, who needed all their professionalism to recreate the eighth wonder of the world. The official ceremony of the opening of the restored Amber Room took place on May, 31, 2003, in honour of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.
